Art
Art at Blenheim Primary School intends to teach skills which the children develop over time through practise and apply independently and creatively.
The school uses a variety of teaching and learning styles in art lessons. The principal aim is to develop children’s knowledge of art, artists and the history of art as well as developing skills and understanding.
Teachers ensure that the children apply their knowledge skills and understanding when developing ideas, planning and creating work, and then evaluating it.
Art skills are taught within a mixture of whole-class teaching and individual or group activities. Within lessons, we give children the opportunity both to work on their own and to collaborate with others, listening to other children’s ideas and treating these with respect. Children critically evaluate artists work, their own work and that of others. They have the opportunity to use a wide range of materials and resources.
Artists are invited into school to work with the children and teachers take classes to visit art galleries where appropriate.
